Shri Budhalinga temple is located in the Girigola village, a close proximity to the Luna River, in the Kendrapara district of Odisha, which is about 60kms from the state capital Bhubaneswar. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is the presiding deity over here.
The word ‘Shiva’ literally means ‘that which is not.’ So the temple was built for ‘that which is not.’ ‘That which is’ is physical manifestation; ‘that which is not’ is that which is beyond the physical. So a temple is a hole through which you enter into a space which is not.
The Budhalinga temple construction project was to renovate the original temple which was built almost 50 years ago, for the first time, since its original construction. In addition; the temple was also extended to make separate space for other deities such as: Lord Jagarnath, Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, Mata Laxmi, Lord Hanumanji, & Mata Parvati.
In order to function as an autonomous organization, a boundary wall, a kitchen, a spacious veranda for practicing religious activities, hand pump based water supply to the temple premises and a store room, were also added, as part of this project.
