  • Movie Review: Pink

Sep 24, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

Over the years; the orientation of Bollywood movies have changed (not sure if evolved). They started with mythological subject lines & continued with the same for over two decades (between 1920s -1940s), the following decade (1940-1950) was about India’s flight for independence, that followed by a decade (1960-1970) which was about deep family emotions…such as sacrifice from a family member, true love, respect to the woman, respect to the elders and reunion with lost brothers/sisters.  It was actually during 1970-1980; when the concept of super villains introduced in Bollywood movies (Prem Chopra, Ranjit, Ajit, Amrish Puri etc) and since then there is no looking back. It only got worst and worst and worst. These super villains became more powerful day by day, in our mind, in our soul, in our blood.  They started destroying poor, they starting raping female characters, they started corrupting the political stability of the country, and now they are playing internationally, with cross border terrorism, scams of international scope and what not.

As we can see how orientation has changed. And there has not been a good mix either. In India; cinema has a great impact on people and the stars are the biggest influences. We try to be like them, look like them and behave like them. We all want our life to be a perfect film story. Cinema plays an important role in our lives, even more than we notice. Forget about me; I do accept; I always wanted my life to be like a happy Suraj Barjatya movie, surrounded by friends, family, happiness and lots of cats/dogs. I was listening to India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani recently and he mentioned; most of the evening after work, he watches a Bollywood movie to wind down and relax. That is the impact of a movie, in the life of us India. Even my son tells me; Papa it is just a movie…but I can’t stop myself being emotional, I do cry with some movies and other movies I proudly sleep all though the movies.

But, there are a few times we feel a lot more than just an IMPACT. We feel a sense of having witnessed something historical, something that touches a deep chord. This is when we come across movies which leave a greater impact on the society. Some actually manage to change a couple of lives while some help to speed up pending justice, some fill us with emotional turmoil and some give your life a complete new direction.

PINK is one such movie. I think it is one of the movies which should cross 600 crores, not the ones which are making that sort of business in the recent times. It is by far; the best movie I have seen in my life. Yes; I did cry at the last scene, when the lady police office shakes hand with Mr.Bachhan outside of the court room. God; what a moment. Pretty defining.

Pink is a movement in its own right. It’s an honest attempt to highlight the rape culture of India. Pink is a powerful statement on the existing feudal mindset of a majority of India. Pink is a protest call to not judge women. A woman who drinks, parties and has male friends over to her house is branded as a 'woman of low character'. A democratic society must be intolerant to a culture that brands women like this. And that is possible; only when films like PINK will be made in the future. And it will be made; only if we show our support for it, by making it 600 crores movie (aahhh forget about it, even 100 crores will do for now J ). Because remember what I said above? In India; cinema has a great impact on people and the stars are the biggest influences, whether it is gigantic Mukesh Ambani or insignificant Bikash Mohanty.

All our Bollywood actors, producers, directors; often look up to Hollywood movies for ideas / references / future prospects. I have not seen a Hollywood movie EVER, where a woman is ever mistreated, raped, gang raped or even used as an object. All the Hollywood movies show women respectfully. And because they show it respectfully; no one in the western society ever considers it is allowed to misbehave with women or rape them. They consider this as banned / prohibited /excluded strictly. It is true; cinema has a great impact on people and the stars are the biggest influences. We try to be like them, look like them and behave like them. We all want our life to be a perfect film story. Cinema plays an important role in our lives, even more than we notice. That is perhaps why; assault rate is on rise in India; because they show it in the movies so regularly these days. I learnt at the spiritual institution; I am associated with for past few years that: everything starts with a thought. Whatever we carry in our mind and we think repeated in our mind; our life takes the shape of it accordingly. If movies teach us bad things, quite likely we shall start to follow them… These sorts of things; hardly ever happened between year 1920-1970, in India; because they were not part of the movies then. Since then; persecution against women is running in parallel with the trend in our movies…getting bigger and worst.

I was leaving work on time yesterday; when a colleague of mine stopped me and suggested we go out for dinner. I said I have to reach the Brahmakumari Yoga studio by 18:30pm. He says “Ohhh…is this one which is run by girls wearing white sarees. I said “Yes”…He then added…”You know…duniya bhar ki gandi baat/dhande wohin pe hoti hey”. I smiled. I didn’t have to answer. His opinion is his and mine? Mine is: I make my own decision and nothing has come to surface for me to believe in what you said. BTW; the person who suggested about Brahmakumaris is a very successful, rich and educated person; just to give an example of how minds work.

It is time for the censor board, audience and the law makers of the county to take note; disallow certain types of contents from movies in the future and provide very strong appreciation/support for inspiring movies like PINK. My rating of the PINK movie is: 5 out of 5.

God!!! It has become bit lengthy for a movie review…never mind…I don’t follow templates…remember why I write at the first place? Because I want to empty my mind and fill my heart with pleasure. One last thing about Pink movie;  every character in the movie has an equally important role to play, whether it is Mr.Bachhan or three girls. EQUALITY; is what needed not Discrimination.

With that thought; its time to wear the sun glasses for one last time; before winter grips in very soon. Its bright and sunny out there. Tow; chaalein sambha? Sambha said; which song shall I play sarkar?

  • Mission is to represent nature; not to manipulate it :)

Aug 21, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

Beautiful discussions took place at our Yoga studio this weekend. The Yoga guru questioned; “When I ask what is happening in the chest; what do you do? “We all take our attention to the chest and start to observe, to find any clue. We even direct our eyes to the chest”. Here; the chest becomes the object of the observation and the eyes become the subject. Why subject? Because it becomes the story teller. But is it really the actual story teller? May be not. Because eyes only looks at the chest; but CHEST is the one which feels it…and conveys to the brain what is happening. Brain then brings it to our mind or our lips…that way we answer our observation…what is happening in the chest. The moment; connection happens between the CHEST (Heart) and the BRAIN (Mind) – It brings quietness, peace and the Yoga starts…Pranayama continues.  Beautiful it is; is not it?

We all like to take control of our lives, but there are many instances when we are unable to. Situations get stronger and they take control eventually. Each situation; however do have a definite life span. When that situation or relationship is deemed over, we cannot always keep it going, no matter how much we want to do so. The concluding tide takes out certain elements of your life that it believes of no future value to us. We do not need to be alarmed by that. The universe will always leave what is relevant, and will only take away elements or relationships it deems obsolete. It’s funny but when the universe starts taking things away from us, we might feel the pain and say:  “Wait! I loved that apartment!, “I loved that person”, “I loved that car”,  or “I loved that house”. Fact is:  No, we didn’t. We always said it was too small, too dark or too far from our work or it was too painful.  It is natural; for us to want to hang on to even unbearable situations that are familiar. But that does not mean we loved them – it is just that we are used to having them. That’s all.  It is therefore very important that we get our priorities right & be honest; so that we will get an answer, when time is appropriate.

Being judgmental is hazardous characteristic to have, both for us and for others.  When we hold inaccurate opinions and share them, we steer other people in the wrong direction along with ourselves.  We also prevent ourselves from being open to receiving new ideas and new opportunities.  A high degree of self-awareness is needed to recognize when we’re wandering off the correct trail and being judgemental. God!; whole country (India) has gone apparently against Sobha De for her being judgmental about Indian athlete’s performance at Rio Olympics.   She has plenty of time to escape from these outbursts by offering an early apology or clarification. Often; our ego comes on our way. In spite of us knowing the error at our end; we cling on to it …we don’t rectify our error, even though we had to pay a bigger price for holding on to it or continuing with the ego. No? Neither was it a positive communication of any sort. I noticed an article somewhere, where it was suggested that Rs. 80 contribution from us will see India win a dozen of Olympics gold medals.  Irrespective of all these discussions; this week indeed belongs to WomenPower, GirlPower.

Although feminism rightfully calls for the end of male domination and abuse and for equal rights for women, it is vital to get to the root of the misrepresentation — that our focus in life, as man or woman, must not be simply to satisfy our own ego or needs, but to serve for a good/balanced life together. True women’s liberation does not mean merely seeking equality within a masculine world, but liberating the divine feminine aspects of a woman’s personality and using them for the benefit of humankind. Men and women must realize their respective equal roles and strive to complement each other in their shared struggle to improve life. In order to correct the abuse of male dominance, men must concentrate on using their dominant qualities for the good. They must use their strength to protect and preserve the feminine character, helping women realize their true potential.

Albert Einstein said; “How on earth are we ever going to explain in terms of chemistry and physics; so important a biological phenomenon as first love?”

Love is difficult to define. How do you avoid confusing it with infatuation or lust? Philosophers and psychologists both have attempted to define love, or at least its difference from infatuation and lust. Not even an experienced person can truly grasp or explain love to its truest and deepest meaning. Its concepts are just a never ending story of an open book of experiences. But love does lie in one's heart, where memories are but shadows lingering in your soul. Love is giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to.

Chalein Sambha ? Goodnight, SubhRatri, Sabah-Khair :) Take very good care of yourself and have a rocking week ahead.

  • Social Transformation: The Art & Science of Accelerating Business Growth!

Aug 12, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

In my last two business transformation series publications; I had covered “Financial Transformation” & “Digital Transformation” in detail and on this publication; I shall cover “Social Transformation” to complete an end-to-end evolution strategy; every business must look at, to be prepared for next two decades and beyond. What is social; first of all? Social is about living in the society, within its terms and contributing to its organization. Seeking or pertaining to, connected with the society; living in a community, rather than in isolation. People are social beings. And what is social media? Social media provides a way people share ideas, content, thoughts, business and relationships online. This online engagement can take on various designs from simple interaction (e.g., blogs, chats) over collaboration to cocreation (e.g., tagging, content editing etc), primarily applied in social networking sites. Such social networks (e.g., Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn or XING – the European pendant to LinkedIn) allow individuals and groups to connect with each other and build networks based on a personal or company profile; with personal or business objectives in mind; resulting in considerable changes in the communications landscape.

Now; let’s see where lies the power of social media at the moment?

    • From the 7.4 billion populations live in this world; 3.4 billion people are active internet users; from which 2.3 billion people are active on social media on a daily basis.
    • Annual growth continues apace (10% increase in internet users & social media users) and particularly 17% increase in mobile social media users, which has hit last year. That is incredible. Huge!
    • It's particularly interesting to observe; how far some countries are diverging in terms of social media use, and surprising that Western Countries are actually lagging a fair way. Asia-Pacific is driving much of this annual growth, with internet usage rates high (12%) and number of active social media users increasing to 14% & increase in active mobile social users seeing a growth of 21%. 59% people in Asia Pacific use internet; in comparison to less than 30% it is used in other developed nations.
    • When looking at the world by number of internet users, it really rams home the importance of East Asian and South Asian markets. Digital offers new opportunities to reach these people, although as always cultural differences are considerable challenges to international marketers.

    Scope of the Opportunity:

Because; we are increasingly adopting the new ways of doing business; we are only going to be loosing strongholds by sticking around with the old ways. There lies the power of social media and its wider reach. In the current day trading cycle:

    • Sales process & Customer role has changed.
    • Voice across social networks has become increasing important & powerful.
    • Buyer has become digitally driven & connected.
    • Multiple devices & real time information has empowered the digital initiatives.
    • Millenials are going to become 75% taskforce by 2025, which run purely on social media. Millenials are born digital.
    • Sales personnel are 51% more likely to hit the quota; as they deal with 45% more opportunities; by using social media as selling instrument.
    • 5.4 people are now involved in the average B2B buying decision.
    • 75% of B2B buyers now use social media to be more informed on vendors
    • 90% of decision makers say they never respond to cold outreach. They are more informed buyers now.

    Efficiency:

Social media are fundamentally changing the way we communicate, collaborate, consume, and create. They represent one of the most transformative impacts of information technology on business, both within and outside business boundaries. Cost cutting, Customer orientation & increased opportunities/growth are the core benefits, achieved through these initiatives – we cut down all redundant processes, we listen to customer sentiments to serve them appropriately and we take advantage of low barriers-to-entry; by making impact online, selling virtually; without having to invest huge capital on traditional methods of trading, marketing and caring for the customers.

    Effectiveness:

Our responsibilities do not end with us; simply integrating various social media platforms with our sales and marketing cycle. Buried within the mountains of social media chatter; are nuggets of valuable data, customer comments and opinions on companies, their products and services, breaking news and market trends. Every day, customers and prospective buyers offer feedback and engage in online conversations about businesses on Facebook and Twitter. Organizations looking for a competitive edge can use social media monitoring and analytics tools to find, sort and analyze that data. Among other potential benefits, social media analytics offers businesses the ability to identify patterns in customer sentiment and gauge their marketing effectiveness.

Consumer goods manufacturers, personal technology makers and companies that rely heavily on word-of-mouth referrals to generate business may find social media analysis tools crucial to their business strategies. But other companies may have less reason to invest in these tools. Because social media listening doesn't encompass offline conversations among consumers, it might not provide a complete picture of sentiment about a company or its products. Companies in various industries are starting to recognize the potential value of managing their social media presence and engaging in social listening. Social Transformation can help to position businesses above their competition.

Business Transformation = Financial Transformation + Digital Transformation + Social Transformation

  • Happiness = Happy Memories :)

Aug 5, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

These days; I often find people using taglines about “Happiness” in their social media profiles. What is happiness; How to achieve happiness; Who is ultimately happy and How to avoid being unhappy etc etc.  Happiness is the most elusive of human conditions surfaced today; all in sudden. Many of my friends, relatives & family members use such happiness taglines. It’s a good thing. I like it. I shall explain below why it is a good thing. No one talks about Wealth, Money, and Financial status in their social media taglines! Wonder why?

American economist Paul Zane Pilzer claims that increasing people's happiness is poised to become a trillion-dollar industry , up there with cars and information technology. Australians are already queuing to hand over $220 a day to an outfit called the Happiness Institute. In seventies and eighties; there was a craze about finding a job; in nineties & Y2K; craze was converted to making money; and now for last decade or so; the focus has shifted noticeably towards happiness.  Everyone wants to happy, somehow but some misunderstand happiness with extreme wealth. They aspire to retire at the age of 40+ or before they turn 50+. Good Luck with that; I believe they are aiming for something else but happiness. The pursuit of earthly happiness is futile and impious. As long as people can be persuaded that money won't make them happy, they will waste it on trying to find out happiness through that route.

Happiness is nothing but regular manifestation of happy memories or happy thoughts. Do we agree or what? We either get happy thoughts or we get unhappy thoughts. When we get more happy thoughts on a regular basis; we are happy souls and the opposite of which are unhappy souls. Right?

So why do we get more of happy thoughts or to that matter unhappy thoughts? That is a million dollar question. Most religions tackle the issue head-on; what type of thoughts we carry in our mind (happy or unhappy) is in our absolute discretion. We control that. And good news is; it is possible to change our thought pattern and change state of affair from unhappiness to happiness, if attempted.

How do we attempt to change? We change that by forcing us to live with/within happy memories. Happy memories create happy thoughts and regular manifestation of happy thoughts is obviously the sign of happiness.  Now let’s go back to the first paragraph where I said; I shall explain below why using social media taglines on “Happiness” subject is a good thing. Here are my thoughts:

    • When we want to pass in the exam; we study.
    • When we want to excel in the exam; we study hard.
    • When we want to loose weight; we watch and monitor our intake, we exercise.
    • When we want to be a pro in swimming, tennis, football, singing, dancing, cooking; we practice, practice & practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice and practice

Practising and indulging in happy thoughts is the first step towards moving slowly into the state of happiness. Nothing can be as useful as this simple understanding. For example; I take hundred of happy pictures in a day; whichever inspires my soul (food, colour, tree, nature, people…etc etc…everything) and live with these pictures literally to keep my mind happily active. Some people write beautiful taglines all over social media platforms and others write THANK YOU THNAK YOU THANK YOU 100 times a day to remain grateful and draw happiness from that. These are all innovative yet unique way to satishfy our unique souls.

Second step is to cut-down or delink or decouple everything that comes in our way to block our happiness. If happiness is our priority; all bottlenecks must be removed; no matter how difficult those decisions can be. Bottlenecks could be people, it could be our job, it could be a particular society we live in, our house, our neighbours….anything that is probing to be a bottleneck must be removed. Nothing more; nothing less. There is no other way.

Third step; is to be realistic and practical with our expectation toward life. It’s not good to be too harsh towards ourselves. Does not matter; if our neighbour has got a Bentley car or Boss has five houses in five different countries. That is their pursuit of happiness; may not sit well with our condition/characteristics. We are trained to compare ourselves with others from a very early age. By comparing ourselves to an ideal / best person; we only loose our originality, which is unique. We all are created unique. When we stop paying attention to others; only then we start to notice ourselves. Understanding ourselves is the most important thing in life to achieve, before we aim to achieve anything else. We are unique and we don’t need to prove anything to anyone.

And lastly; the proposed happiness model is therefore based on five “F”s (Food, Family, Friends, Film and Football (we can make an exception here…we can choose any other activity in stead of football; such as Cricket? Tennis? Cooking? Singing? Dancing? Photography?)

    • If we believe “Money/Wealth = Happiness”  – then we will deal with a battle-ground as we are witnessing everyday. There will be prosperity but there will not be any peace.
    • If we believe “Happiness is a state of mind & a necessity”  – then the hunger for money & luxury will be outgrown and we shall discover happiness from the necessity itself. Make sense?

China wants to be super power! Big deal? No; it isn’t. India is going to surpass China's growth? Big deal? No; it isn’t. American is at least 10 times more powerful than the next powerful nation in terms of military strength! Big deal? No; it isn’t. Apple is going to launch IPHONE 7 this year or something else ? They are not big deals at all. These are all pure competitions. And these competitions are threatening our sustainability; no one cares. Exactly is the situation with happiness. We want to be happy; only after winning all competitions, after making all that money, after acquiring and achieving everything; so that we can retire at the age of 40+ or 50+. Illusion is an instance of a wrong or misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience. Let’s remember that

For now; it is the start of the weekend and it is time to create happy memories; camera ready? Speaker ready? Lets turn the volume up please…Have a fantastic weekend and remember to smile often...smile at everyone. Goodnight; Subh-Ratri & Sabah-Khair.

  • Digital Transformation - The Power to Empower...

Aug 4, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

On April 18, 2009, the President Obama of United States had announced the appointment of his government’s first CTO for the country. “CTO for a country”! What is the need, how does this work? The statement from his then office read as: “President Obama will appoint the nation’s first Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to ensure that our government and all its agencies have the right infrastructure, policies and services for the 21st century”. Likewise; I do receive regular communications from the office of Prime Minister of India, which say that: “Systems are being set up to build capacity for digital India by engaging with stakeholders to give ideas and enabling organizations to manage them. Learning & knowledge management systems are also being introduced within the Government systems to update skills of Govt officials in order to realise the vision of a Digitally empowered India. As we engage citizens through apps and social media platforms to give feedback, a system has to be in place to analyze and drive meaningful insights from that feedback to drive policy changes. Rapid Assessment System (RAS) being set up is one such initiative.”

    WHY?

In essence; the need of the CTO position in the United States or Digital initiatives by PMO in India was to manage: risk, opportunity, investment, efficiency, growth & trust  at the country level through Digital Transformation. Same objectives & outcomes are also likely; when we drive our business organization through Digital Transformation.

    WHAT?

Digital transformation is the profound and accelerating transformation of business activities, processes, competencies and models to fully leverage the changes and opportunities of digital technologies and their impact across society in a strategic and prioritized way. Today five (5) trends are dramatically reshaping our current & future economy:

    Hyper connectivity

The hyper-connected world is a world where things that need to communicate will and do communicate. Truly, our dishwasher can talk to the power grid, our fuel sensor can talk to the gas station, and our grass can talk to our sprinklers. Hyper-connectivity means everything is talking: person-to-person, person to machine and machine to machine. These interactions are 1:1, 1:many and many:1.

    Super Computing

The limits of 20th century computing power are gone. Networking & in-memory computing allow for the creation of new business opportunities, which were previously unimaginable.

    Cyber Security

Cyber-security is the protection of information systems from theft or damage to the hardware, the software, and to the information on them, as well as from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide. Bad actors have expansive disruptive capabilities. Today; the trust remains the ultimate vehicle or investment capital; giving security focussed organizations a significant advantage in brand reputation.

    Smarter World

Sensors, Robotics, 3D printing and artificial intelligence are the new normal driving the outcome-based economy.

    Cloud Computing

Imagine how many innovating ideas died down early because of the fear and inability to cope with high capital investment in technology infrastructure. Good new is: Technology infrastructure can now be rented to eliminate the barriers to entry. Project timelines are dramatically shortened and customer relationships are becoming increasingly direct.

It is said that in next 10 years; 40% of the global S&P 500 will no longer exist; if they don’t keep up with these technology trends. However it is understandable that not all types (size + industry combination) of businesses will require transformations listed above straight away. But it is indeed time now for the plan and to check what is absolutely essential to drive original strategy of the business through these changes.

    HOW?

While the change is inevitable; maintaining Simplicity, Transparency and Reliability in times of change will make the transition smoother. Driving simplification of everything from the Boardroom to the Finance, Risk and Insight functions enabling them to respond with agility to opportunities and risks in the Digital Economy can drive decision-making and control functions of every organisation. We need solutions, which can bring effectiveness to the following:

    • Effective Risk Management
    • Real-time Control/Awareness over the business
    • Automated Continuous Monitoring
    • Risk & Controls structure
    • Advanced Cyber security technologies
    • Fast Analytics tools for Big Data
    • Predictive Technologies
    • Transformative Audit capabilities
    • Next generation security/fraud solutions
    • Reduce infrastructure cost & customer engagement cost
    • Reduce boardroom meeting time and effort through better information flow
    • Leverage predefined best practices to accelerate time to value

Four key building blocks are essential to digital transformation: cloud, mobile technology, data, and networks. Together, these building blocks can fuel an enterprise’s shift to the new way of doing business, in a much simpler way.

    Insight Simplification through Technology

    • Cloud for Analytics
    • Business Intelligence
    • Predictive Analysis

    Finance Simplification through Technology

    • Cloud for Analytics
    • Enterprise Performance Management (EPM)
    • Accounting & Financial Close
    • Collaborative Finance Operations
    • Treasury & FRM

    Risk Simplification through Technology

    • Cloud for Analytics
    • Access Governance
    • Controls & Compliance Management
    • Fraud Management
    • International Trade Services

    Operations Simplification through Technology

    • Cloud for Analytics
    • Business Intelligence
    • Real-time insight
    • Predictive Analysis
    • Dashboards & Mobile Analytics

With over 1.3 billion people now on social networks, it’s no surprise that networks play a large role in digital transformation. Social transformation is one of the four essential building blocks of digital transformation. But they are not essentially the same thing.

As growing digitization and evolving consumer demand rapidly change in the marketplace, executives must find new ways to innovate for business advantage. By embracing digital transformation – the use of new technologies like cloud, mobile, Big Data, and social networks – companies can capitalize on new opportunities and optimize existing operations to achieve significant business improvement. But to transform themselves, they must have the right digital assets in place first to protect their own operations from disruption.

The 2015 Gartner CIO Agenda Survey show that not only do CIOs expect, and aspire to, a leading role in digitalization, their CEOs expect them to step up and lead the digital charge during this critical transition period. To seize this unique opportunity and ensure that their enterprises survive and thrive in an increasingly digital world, CIOs must accept the “digital now, digital first” reality, address long-standing challenges in value and risk management that could thwart digitalization and replace pragmatic command and control with vision and inspiration.”

  • Business Transformation Series: FINANCIAL

Aug 2, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

Storytelling is the conveying of events in words, sound and/or images, often by improvisation or embellishment. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and instilling moral values. Contemporary storytelling is also widely used to address educational objectives. New forms of media are creating new ways for people to record, express and consume stories. Power of a successful story telling cannot be overestimated. Objectives of telling a story are to inspire and make others aware. There are four steps to every effective story telling.

    1. Background
    2. Issues / Challenges
    3. Solutions
    4. Results / Benefits / Social Message

Financial transformation is such a story , which requires clarification in an orderly manner to simplify; what is it, why it is needed, how it is done, what are the KPIs for its success and what are the benefits. And most importantly; whose responsibility it is to ensure it is in place? The CEO, The CFO or the CTO?

    Background:
The daily business of Finance Departments is very complex. And with a lot of key topics on the agenda (such as Budget management, regulatory requirements, Cost, Profitability, Financial transformation & Cash-flow). All the more are the need for "right" Analysis and a single version of truth on big data; creates an opportunity to glean deeper insights into the internal and external forces that influence company’s performance. Finance transformation is aimed at creating a finance function that is able to influence business leaders to make better business decisions. It will help to clarify the role of finance in driving strategic business imperatives, and will focus the finance function on delivering the right information to the right business leaders at the right time.

    Issues / Challenges:

    • Challenges in budget management and reporting . Can't automatically track actual expenditures versus budgets.
    • Limited accessibility of data.  Current capabilities don't enable drilling into problems and issues from the desktop. Time-consuming, ad hoc research has to be done on issues to reveal the appropriate data
    • Lack of integrated internal and external financial reporting.  Financial systems required to support internal and external reporting are not integrated and don't support reporting requirements.
    • Challenges in compiling financial reporting.  Manual consolidation means that compiling required financial reporting, as well as internal management reports on the state of the business takes too long.
    • Lack of detailed segmented performance reporting.  There is no quick and easy way to look at or analyze performance, revenue, or costs at a product line, plant level, store level, or by geography. Hence profitibility can not be measured.
    • Lack of formal key performance indicator reporting.  Key performance indicators can not be tracked and reported in a real-time dashboard.
    • Limited segment-based sales reporting.
    • Challenges in segment cost and profitability reporting.  It is difficult to track and assign costs down to a product, a location, or a customer; therefore, product or customer profitability is very difficult to evaluate and track.
    • Lack of an enterprise-wide Reporting strategy.  There is no common agreement across the organization, or a strategy for how we obtain, use, and share information to inform and enable decision-making by management and executives.
    • Lack of an enterprise-wide view of financial data.

    The Solution:
A reliable Analytics/Business Intelligence solution is able to analyze massive amounts of information to provide important insights into patterns that indicate the aptitudes and attitudes of the organization. This can transform the finance department from a group of back-office accountants who focus on cost control; to trusted advisors who deliver insights about how to help the organization achieve strategic objectives and goals.

  • Theory of Magnetism!

Jul 24, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

Some people bring the most magnificent relief to life's daily drudgeries. We appreciate these people because they radiate positivity, humor or give off a pleasant feel-good factor. We want to be surrounded by such people and, generally, they want to be surrounded by people who make them feel good for doing what they do naturally; as well. This is not something new; that I am trying to recommend us today. This has always been there…in the form of a law of universe. We get attracted to people who make us positive and run away from them who take it all down from us consistently.

People say “I love you” in different ways. Such as: Eat Something, Do up your seat belt, I bought something tasty for you, Go sleep, Have some fries, I'll buy it for you, I have painted something for you, Wear something warm, it is cold out there. Essentially all these mean that we care for the others and hence we love them. These are implied truth but not implicit. If the message is for an individual; it has to be implicit. If it for the mass; it can be generic. That is the law. Our message will received by the others well; when it also contains factors “what they want to receive” and “how they want to receive”.

In any sort of relationship; whether business or personal; they say that we must need to be friends first. That’s correct. We can’t have a sustained business with others; if we are not good friends with them. Well; there is no point having friendship with someone for a wrong reason and mistaken objective. But I want to add a small twist to it. We can’t have sustained friendship; if we didn’t respect the person at the first place. We should be able to respect the person first; (naturally not forcibly with an objective) before we can have a honest friendship with them and when we have a honest friendship with them; we can have an honest relationship with them; whether business or personal. It is natural for us to like different things and each of the other people will have different qualities for us to like or dislike. Neither we, nor the other person; nor the prospective situation therefore can be generalised. Each person and the situation can provide a unique opportunity for us to like or dislike. Respect springs logically when we naturally like/appreciate/adore something or someone for who they are already not by changing them.

Hindi word “Hum” translates to “I or us”. If used inappropriately; can be misunderstood as “one’s ego”. And the Hindi word “Tum” translates to “You or Yours”. If used inappropriately; can be misunderstood as “pointing finger at others”. Both; Ego and Pointing fingers at others are barred in the codes of effective communication. There is no value in a communication, which is difficult to apprehend; convoluted to process and torturous to relish. If we want others to listen to us; our communication must be simple, sweet, approachable and full of compassion. Nothing more; nothing less.

That’s all I want to pass on to you all beautiful people out there. Let’s be a person in other’s life what we expect them to be in ours. Let’s look for virtues/people who we can respect naturally. Lets be implicit in our communication with others; and our communication must be simple, approachable and full of compassion. What will it do? Why it is necessary? It will make us a magnet… a magnet which will attract equal behaviour from the opposite direction.  That’s what we want, right? That’s what we will have…trust. We can bring more than a ray of sunshine to other's world now. They'll appreciate it and we'll feel better for doing so, too. Value must be added/given first; before it can be received back. Investment, continuous care & an honest intension to succeed; are necessary for any business to make profit. We don’t start to make profit from the ideas or imagination.

With that thought; I want to leave you with a bright and magnificent Super Sunday today. Please enjoy the day and remember to carry your SMILE all day long; it’s warm out there. That’s help to cool it down.

  • Equality...The Time is Now!

Jul 15, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

Amazing times ahead. THE WORLD is on the verge of being ruled by a women force once again after many decades, as Hillary Clinton fights to join Theresa May and Angela Merkel as major leaders on the international stage.  Leading News Paper in the UK read; If Hillary Clinton wins the American presidential election in November, there will be women in charge of five of the leading countries and organisations in the world - the US, the UK, Germany, the IMF and the US Federal Reserve. That's three of the world's biggest economies and two of the most important financial institutions. There's also the reasonable possibility of a woman becoming the new UN Secretary General. What does it actually mean? What actually changes if women are in those top jobs? On one level it is huge. It's certainly unprecedented and a big crack in the glass ceiling. Half-a-century ago it would have been unimaginable to see so many women running the show. It is hard for one woman in one top job to bring about single handed that much needed change in tone. So this is a very welcome start but it doesn't alter everything. What these outlier senior women now need is an army of women to join the army of men under them. It's then that our world will really change.

Now guess what; you will expect me to say; what I thought about such transformation. No?

I AM CURIOUS. Yes I am just VERY VERY curious.  Every country I visited or lived in last 15-20 years; I tried to enquire the elderly people there; about how this issue was dealt with, some 50 years ago in their own country – how was it dealt in the UK, in the USA, in Australia or even in Middle-East…?. Yes; like many of us; I was also mistaken that it is only in the developing or under-developing countries only; women were treated badly or neglected for thousands of years as the history can go back to. But that’s not true. Some of my elderly colleagues/friends from the developed nations;  do advise that the situation was exactly like that; for their mothers/grand-mothers, 50 years ago; exactly how the situation exist today in the developing or under-developing countries Women mostly stayed at home and looked after their household and helped to raise their children. That is all. I think it started changing in late eighties or early nineties only in the western countries and after Y2K in India and rest of the developing countries. We are not far behind. But yes; we did have the awareness. Women liberalization movement started in India some 188 years ago in India, not now. And also we didn’t inherit this great ideology from the western world. Who knows if this good cause was transported back from India; to the rest of the world? Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the founder of the Brahmo Sabha movement in 1828, which engendered the Brahmo Samaj, an influential socio-religious reform movement. He is best known for his efforts to establish the abolishment of the practice of sati, the Hindu funeral practice in which the widow was compelled to sacrifice herself in her husband’s funeral pyre in some parts of Bengal. What is not so well known is that Roy protested against the East India Company's decision to support vernacular education and insisted that English replace Sanskrit and Persian in India. It was he who first introduced the word "Hinduism" into the English language in 1816.

If we believe, as I firmly do, that we are all better off with more women in top positions in every area of life, then this is something to celebrate. A wealth of global studies now shows us that organisations perform better when there is a mix of men and women in charge.

While it is a great cause and we expect the movement to reach its conclusive objective; there are few realities about it, we must appreciate…

    1. Like our overgrown population; like our unwanted corruption; the conclusive objective of women liberalization movement may not arrive in this generation. As we can see the issue has lived approximately 5000+ years and rectification process started about 200+ years ago. It may take several generations for it to be rectified to a safe extent; if the consistent efforts were volunteered.
    1. It is not the fault of male community of this generation that women have suffered 5000+ years. Nope. It is a social issue like corruption and population. So; men of this generation are expected to be cooperative and supportive towards this movement and changes. And they must as well. But they can’t be abused for something which had started 5000+ years ago and sustained through various political, biological and environmental changes. Not fair. This battle can be won; if both men and women fight together against the cause; not against each other.
    1. Few things are down to our personal choices. Not all men are from Mars and all women are from Venus. There are exceptions and my god these are quite a lot in numbers. We are talking about 7.4 billions in total. A small percentage of it can be quite substantial. When I say personal choices – I refer to the fundamental choices we make naturally or a day to day basis. Whether black or white; whether boy or girl; whether simple or complex. We still have some parents in the society who treat their male children more importantly than their female children. These are done with such subtlety that they don’t stand out on their own but collectively these have such a huge impact on the society and mindset of people living in it. This is not obvious in households where they have only girls but in a household where they have both boys and girls; we can possibly find difference in treatment towards girls. Again; not all are like this. I have seen it personally and fought against it myself.
    1. There is a lot of competition infused into our society at the moment to draw detestation between two most beautiful innovations of the God; Men and Women. Who created it – why was it created? Think carefully. There is someone/something/somewhere benefited because of this. They enjoy life by putting us into this trap and we suffer through this all our life and nothing changes. Imagine; they say a glass of wine is good for health. It is such an overrated advert that anyone who can afford are tricked to believe this advert. But is it really true? We do this, because others are doing this and it is a current trend to do this. We never validated the truth behind this statement; neither had we examined if there is any substitute available which is cheaper and tastier than the overrated wine. Did we? No – we never did.  Similarly; the infused hate in women’s mind today for men of the same generation; is nothing but an un-thoughtful and invalidated reality. It helps corporatism; it helps business growth. More difference the men and women will have; will have a positive impact on a legal industry, on food and beverages industry or even tobacco industry, on the fashion industry, on everything else. We talk about religion and religion playing a role in today’s corporatism through terrorism! And what about this? The division of human race by even broader categories; men and women. It’s huge and hence thoughtfully infused I believe by wicked minds. And we attempt to finish our entire life fighting this illusion. Just imagine.
    1. Women liberalization is not about having liberty to be absolutely careless and irresponsible. There are still some of males out there who come home drunk everyday; they have affairs outside home which they try to hide, they have freedom to do anything and everything they want but do not grant any freedom to their other-halves. They treat their other-halves as some kind of objects, who are there to look after the home and kids in an economical way. At the same time; there are females out there; who also do the exact same thing; have an affair outside and when questioned they safely blame their other-halves for displaying negativity towards their potential and growth. They hide their bad habits behind the greater shelter of women liberalization. These are deceitful act and are happening quite regularly where some of them are taking advantage of the situation. Having multiple affairs is a sign of prosperity these days and provides a false sense of “being-in-demand” to those who are involved. We are not talking about people who are yet to marry because it does not matter for them. But when two people decide to marry and have a family together; they choose to contribute some of their time and responsibility towards family. Family comes first before anything and everything. Neither the male nor female is responsible alone for the family; but both of them. So those choices need to be made before the final decision whether to marry at the first place or not. Decisions should not be made in Los Vegas or in a pub where two drunken people decided to spend life together (Joking. I am talking about the Hollywood movie “What happens in Vegas”). Although I am joking; quite a lot of the marriage decisions do take place like that, these days. If proper time was spent and honesty was exchanged before the marriage decision; there would not be any humiliation and need for such desperate isolation/freedom/separation at a later stage. Marriage is a known process; where two people mercifully choose to unite for life long. That’s the definition and everything else is influenced as usual. Like they say; a glass of wine a day is good for our health. They have also started saying that a few flings after marriage are also good for health. Some of them are already bought over due to their existing weaker integrity. And for other; it’s a nuisance….
    1. Lastly; we are not honest in our approach to fight this social issue; not even women themselves. I have seen so many cases where couples fight like cats and dogs….horribly…in front of others! I feel very restless. I try to run away from such situations. I feel like telling them; grow up people - Please keep all these away from public. Deal all these at home within closed doors and if not possible go to the authorities for help. But kindly do not cause social pollution by exhibiting your fighting skills in public. I try to keep Rishi away from such situation and people. I will be finished otherwise; if he starts asking me questions “Why…Why Papa; Why? Few years ago; Bollywood actor Amir Khan was running a television program “Satyameva Jayate”, where each of his episodes was based on a social issue. One of the episodes was on this topic “Women liberalization”. It was discussed that majority of the related offences; are created in educated / well-to-do households.  That’s because we only point finger at others but we hide the issues at our own home. I have noticed some couples have so much of differences at home on this subject; that it is almost impossible for a collation between them going forward; but when they come out together in public; they say every nice things about each other and their relationship. That is short-termism; to achieve a false social status. And with short-termism; this process of women liberalization is only going to take longer and longer. The issue should be and must be dealt with head on and with honesty.

So my thoughts about Women liberalization are simple. There is a need for it and it is highly essential right now. But it is impossible to achieve without men and women joining hands together for this social cause. I am not saying women are less capable and can not do it alone but “why divide” is my point.  There is so much of division already in the society by religion, country, colour, region and what not. Do we really need one more segregation? I am not trying to prove other view points are wrong either.  “ Gender Equality” as a phrase can draw more support for this cause than “Women Liberalization”. I think so. I can explain why with an example. A Blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said "I am blind; please help." There were a few coins in the hat only. A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign and turned it around and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone walked by would see the new words. Now; a lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were with the blind boy. The blind boy recognised his footsteps and asked "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?". The man said "I only wrote the truth". What he had written was "Today is a beautiful day and I can not see it.” Positivity is always more appealing and more powerful. Right now; we are not really fighting the social issue. Women and men are fighting each other. They are not the same thing really. A constructive appeal from women community can bring the world to stand still. I believe so, you know what I mean? It is appearing as a distance reality because we are fighting against a wrong cause, not the actual devil itself.

An inappropriate example of Women liberalization is singer Miss Sona Mohapatra, from Bolllywood. She belongs to the same state as mine in India and I have got a huge respect for her singing skills. She has been in the news recently for publicly out-bursting mega star Salman Khan. Apparently; Salman Khan in an interview compared himself with a raped woman when quizzed about the gruelling “Sultan” shoot, drawing sharp reaction from all quarters. To which Sona Mohapatra took it to Twitter and said “Women thrashed, people run over, wild-life massacred & yet hero of the nation.'Unfair'.India full of such supporters”. To me it is personal attack on Salman Khan from Sona Mohapatra. She could have simply talked about the unfair comment from Salman Khan and looked as clean as others cine-stars whoever chose to comment on this matter. But her comment was more personalized, sounded judgemental and appeared some-what opportunistic.  That’s all Sona Mohapatra and Anupam Kher have been doing more recently. Picking up some insignificant issues and making them big enough for their own benefit.  Let me clarify this with a small story I received from my friend in social media. “A small boy parks his bicycle nearby the Parliament house and walks on...A police constable stops him and asks: Why did you park your bicycle here....don't you know about this road? Many MPs, sometimes Chief Ministers, even President and cabinet ministers and politicians pass from here...The boy replied innocently: Don't worry, I have locked my bicycle.” What do we gather from the story? That everyone has two eyes but no one has the same view as the other. Sometimes we say things because we don’t know what to say, we are less intelligent, or we do not know, what not to say. So should we be making it such a big issue, a national agenda almost? My God; imagine those 4000 crores scam involved with Chief Minister Madhu Koda of Chhattisgarh few years ago or even $30 billions involved with 2G/3G scams few years ago. Let’s raise our voices to those issues because those are genuinely national issues because it involved public money, money which belongs to India…ultimately by the people of India. There are so many rapes, killing happening almost regularly; we keep a dignified silence but when it is small unthoughtful statement from a big star; we all jump ahead to make a statement. Because; that provides us a platform to take off. That’s why I said; we must be honest in our approach – about what we are fighting and why we are fight. Goes without saying that statement from Salman Khan was inappropriate and he should have clarified/apologized by now, if not already.

I read somewhere in a magazine today that Type A (perfectionist) personalities are very likely to have heart attack or blood pressure etc. Those who are greedy are more likely to develop dietetics and those who are live under pressure are likely to develop stomach ulcer. Are these correct? Not sure. I am not a doctor. But I liked the bit where it read that; by us accepting our faults we can reverse these health issues; whether it is irritation or greediness or trying to be perfect all the time. Awareness is more important and it is the first step towards the recovery. I received a letter from one of my regular blog reader; suggesting that I should write more topics such world-economy, politics, finance etc as well. Fair enough; I have assured him that for next couple of weeks/months; I shall focus on such topics. So let’s catch up on few residual life-coaching matters, before we change the topic.  Shall we?

We went to a close friend’s house few months ago and during the course of our visit; we heard one of their family members was shouting at their servant very badly. Rishi was standing there stunned and watching it very seriously. I knew what was going on in his little mind – “It’s not fair” . I tried to divert his attention and got him into a room, got him to engage in his favourite IPhone application and I increased the volume to as high as possible, so that he can’t hear what’s going on outside. On our way back; I asked him if he had a good time. He said: “Yes but why the man was shouting at the other man so badly?”. I told him that the man was little upset but that does not mean that he is a bad person. Rishi said “Yes, I thought so…he is a nice person…he spoke to me so nicely few minutes before he started shouting at the poor man”. I said; nothing to worry because that happens sometimes. But Rishi was not done with all his reserved “Whys”. He further interrogated me: “Why do people get upset Papa?” . I said; “Our brain is composed of 900 different types of chemicals and a slender disproportion of any of these 900 types of chemicals, can cause us to behave indifferently, without our choice but naturally”. “Hmmm…that’s interesting but why does these chemicals disproportionate”; that was his next why. And “How do we fill these chemicals so that we don’t get upset unnecessarily”; he added further. “These chemicals are refilled automatically my son; we can’t fill them manually. These chemical can dry up like imagine a bottle of water you kept in our house and never refilled it with any fresh water. It’s natural for them to dry up. They get refilled when we eat more vegetables/fruit, drinks lots of water, tell truth, smile always, do yoga, do exercise, play football, study in time, eat in time, sleep In time, laugh always, help others and be kind to others.” Rishi smiled now; he said “That’s easy; Papa”. See; I told you…it takes very little. And we hugged each other with a hope to live happily thereafter.

Today is my lucky day. I have been here in the UK for almost 9+ years now. Every year I tried at least couple of times to plant “Tulsi” Maiya at home but my attempts had failed every time, except for this time today. My mother says; it is good to set up Tulsi Maiya at the entrance of our home. A mere glance of Tulsi Maiya before leaving home can ensure; everything will go smoothly on that day. Same logic with the fish tank, same logic with Ganeshji’s status at the entrance of our home. I am not sure if those viewpoint are true or not; but we followed all these because of the insistence of our mother, since our childhood. Then we get habituated with those logics, after some time. To me; it feels good…feels like home…away from home.  Thank you Tulsi Maiya and hamari Maiya (India wali). https://youtu.be/-EpeJLbrnRs

In the middle of the night; I felt as if someone was calling me by my name…I could feel the distinction…the divine smell…the reassuring voice and the rhythm of thousand damrus and a sense of purity in the air. I realized it was Mahadev. He called me by my name again. “Present, Mahadev” I said. Mahadev asked how it is going with me. I said; all fine Mahadev…I do everything that you have taught me, that is good for me and is good for the humanity. Mahadev was pleased. He said; well done my son and asked “What you want from me today?”. I said nothing…I have everything by the grace of you Mahadev. Mahadev insisted for me to ask something from him…at least one. You know already Mahadev what I want; I said. He smiled but insisted that I spell it out. I told him Mahadev; please bless me so that “Aaj ka Din Mere Jiban ke Saab se, Mahatwapurn Din do” …”Please bless me so that; today will always be the most important day of my life”. Mahadev smiled again…he said “That’s a difficult one…however I can grant you but you need to go through some test to prove you are capable and responsible to handle my grant with care”. Are you willing you take the test? Absolutely Mahadev…I am up for any test you script for me. Mahadev smiled again and asked… ”What if it takes a big chunk of your life to go through that test itself…and when you finally get my grant, you will not have time to enjoy it”. I shall complete the test still Mahadev; I said. I hope you will not withdraw; questioned Mahadev. My life is at your disposal Mahadev. What is your inspiration to do this my son; Mahadev questioned again. It is to experience the best of your creation; Mahadev…I answered. Mahadev smiled and disappeared. I woke up with the alarm bell ringing…only to realize I was dreaming…alas…it was a very sweet dream indeed. And my day has been rocking since then. Love you Mahadev. I am able to live, survive and sustain because of you and the hopes you planted in my little mind. https://youtu.be/xY57zpVIQNo

  • Love, Justice, Balance and Forgiveness!

Jul 11, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

A little boy goes to his dad and asks: What is politics?  Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the breadwinner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. Your Mom, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the Government. We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the people. The nanny, we'll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we'll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense. So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what dad had said.

Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now."  The father says, "Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."  The little boy replies,  "Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shit."

A little boy grows up, goes to his dad and asks:  What is BUSINESS Dad?

Dad                  :  I want you to marry a girl of my choice.
    Son                  :  No
Dad                  :  The girl is Bill Gate's daughter.
Son                  :  Then it is Ok.

    Dad goes o Bill Gates.

Dad                  :  I want your daughter to marry my son.
    Bill Gates        :  No
Dad                  :  My son is the CEO of the World Bank.
Bill Gates        :  Than it is ok

Dad goes 2 the President of the World Bank.

Dad                 :  Appoint my son as the CEO of your bank.
    President       :  No
Dad                 :  He is the son-in-law of Bill Gates.
President       :  Then it is OK

    That's business; the Dad said!

Infidelity is becoming a customary reality right now…in politics, in business, in partnership, in marriage, in friendship…in any sort of relationship to that matter…whether business or personal. Temptation is everywhere. Quick fixes / short-cuts seduce us with their false warranties. Everyone knows, they still do and no one judges anymore. Whoever questions; is labelled as orthodox, out-dated, out-of-order and also out-of-fashion. I suppose few can still judge because although there is so much of it and there are also little bit of opposite, which keep up the balance & also keep our hopes alive.

Some example of this little percentage of opposite types is my own parents.  T   oday is an important day for us. This day; 41 years ago; my parents got married and some 18 months later, their elder child came into this world.  Amazing journey, hey? 41 years of togetherness and still counting. What shall I say about my parents? They are my creator and there is so much to learn from them...their hard work, their dedication, their sacrifices, their honesty, their helpful nature to others, their public work.  There was not a single allegation or even gossip about my Dad in his entire professional career. Spotless!!!  My mother spent most of her time (even her younger days) in performing spiritual activities…non-stop and everyday. She never took any interest in dressing up, buying jewelleries, showing-off like others do; neither now nor in her young days. I have not seen many people around, spending their own hard-earned money, so easily, so happily for the betterment of others. My parents never interfered in my life…what I study…which company I work…where I live etc. Never, I don’t remember a single instance when they did that or even were keen to do that. There is so much to learn from them.  And most important of them all is: they never give up, how much of odds are up against them.

They help people unconditionally but when same people cause them pain; they get affected…they become sad, they keep thinking about it and talking about it, within their own home but never confront them whoever has caused pain to them. They are harmless to others but people keep bringing harm to them. That is the only thing we had disagreed. I spent many years trying to change their attitude towards external complexity/negativity/jealousy. I personally deal with these things differently. I do not pay any attention. I have no time for negativity whatsoever. I run-away from people who are negative or hot-blooded for that matter. I only think/talk/eat/sleep positivity. That’s what I am appreciated for each and every day in my friend circle and professional circle. I have professionally studied life and business coaching as well. I feel, my parents wished that I participated with them in those discussions/dissections/analysis of who did what harm to us and introspection of their action. But I don’t do that. I don’t fancy. It creates negativity within me, its bad for me. How can I accept? So; not possible – even if; that makes me a bad person or bad son.

I keep telling them; we are what we are today because of sheer hardwork, honesty & helpfulness, nothing else. Is there anyone on this whole earth surface who can challenge that?  If there is anyone: ask them to come and deal from the front. If not; how does it matter? Let them be in the place, where they belong, in their little dungeon from where they are operating. Certainly it was not from the front and it will never be from the front.  And we shall deal with only those, which are approaching us from the front.  Rest all; don’t mind; doesn’t matter. They agree but I know they still indulge.  I think this is called  “Attachment”  , because it involves friends and families; which is what lord Krishna appealed us to avoid, for attaining peace in life.

I left India when I was 24 or so. And since then I have been living abroad. I lived & worked in four different continents. I am citizen of three different countries. All these worldly experiences bring a different outlook and it has to be different from people who lived in India only, such as my parents. As a result of which; I deal things little differently than my parents. I can’t say mine is better but it is certainly little different.

There was another thing I had disagreement with my parents; but I have rectified myself; with time…rather with the age. I had questioned always my parent’s selection of dignified silence. I confronted them why they didn’t stop me, if they knew it is going to save me from experiencing all those hassles; by me not doing certain things. My Dad’s composed answer used to be “You didn’t ask me” !!! Well; I know what he meant by that…he wanted me to try things and be responsible for my own actions and destiny. Fair deal. I expected them to be more vocal and clarify things when in a questionable situation. I was young and immature. But today; I think I was wrong. One requires a lot of patience and courage to maintain silence…to not to indulge in conflict. Shahrukh Khan said recently in a press conference …”People talk behind your back…make sure you give them some interesting topics”. How many clarifications can we do? We are very capable of spending all our life clarifying to other people’s complexity/jealousy/doubt/assumption/made-up rumours etc. Is this why we have come to this world i.e. for attending to the negativities of others or we are here to bring out positivity in others? If people are complex, jealous and harmful in mind; it is their battle, not ours. They have to get rid these bad qualities to remain peaceful. We can remind them if needed but certainly can not be responsible for their behaviour or act. I am proud that my parents are non-violent. They deal with the pain caused to them internally but never exhibit it violently towards others. I want them ignore things and not take them into heart or get affected emotionally.

I wish; I had a similar appealing/vocal relationship with my parents as I share with Rishi today.  I grew up in a very strict and humble environment. That was expected. I am talking about a time we lived some 20-30 years ago, which is totally different from the present period. Most parents in India those days were strict and kids were expected to respect their parents only, not befriend with them.  Kids and parents were not supposed to exchange “I love you” 100 times; as Rishi and I exchange in a day.  But hey; that is not their fault. That was a different time, age, generation. That’s how most of the parents in the society brought up their children. And we listened to our parents & obliged to everything possible, including to marry someone unknow, whom we never knew before. I would not have been able to compare these parenting skills; should I not have lived abroad for 20 years and seen things differently here in the western countries.  If that is the case, how it is my parent’s fault?  It is not their fault. Understand there was a little lack of vision but can we single them out? Perhaps NOT!!! Most of the parents were like that, at that time.

But I must admit; it brings such a confidence in kids to see/hear those reassurances from their parents that they love him/her and he/she is the best in the world. That confidence paves way for such a solid foundation.  I have not heard an honest “I love you” from anyone before Rishi or anyone other than him.  Parents were strict and Grand-father could have, he was capable of, was educated enough but I guess it was not customary then. And also; I lived away from home, from a very early age for my education and then for the job. So understandably; we all missed opportunities and it was not in my destiny therefore. Before we realized the need; it is too late and bit awkward now.

It reminds me of an occasion; when I went with my grand-father to listen to a prabachan/speech of a spiritual guru in our home town. I must have been in standard 8th or so then. The Guru was explaining:  “Once lord Krishna was asked: whether he thought the role of Yashoda (the foster mother) is more important than Devaki (mother who have birth to him) in life. And apparently; lord Krishna explained…the role of Yashoda was more important”.  I don’t remember the logic behind that anymore. We have to dig deep and take help of sister Google for that.  I can imagine why that may have been the ideal answer.  We take after someone, who we spent most time with and lord Krishna spent his entire childhood/youth with Yashoda, until he left for Hastinapur to take over the kingdom. Yashoda may have also said “I love you son” to lord Krishna, 1000 times a day or more.  So there was a lot of contribution from Yashoda which formatted lord Krishna to be a person of his calibre, in his human form. Krishna’s relationship with his adopted mother, Yashoda, is a shining example of the ideal love that should exist between a mother and her child. Krishna’s pranks frustrated Yashoda incessantly, but they also enchanted her. Yashoda’s reprimands were stern, but Krishna found them to be music to his ears. Because at the end of the day, Krishna always found himself wrapped securely in his mother’s arms as she sang to him and rocked him to sleep.  It is important therefore to be careful; who we spend time with.  If we spend time with whom we respect; we will learn something good from them. If we compromise; we become someone which we can't recognize.

All right friends; I get carried away with such topics. I am a life-coach after all. Today…on this auspicious day…I want to make a small promise to myself. I shall make my parents feel good… equally as I am responsible for making Rishi feel good. I want to be the best son, unconditionally. I know I already do that to great extent but I want to carry out even better than before. There is always scope for improvement in everything we do. Life can be uncertain at time…I don’t want to miss these opportunities. I am not here to judge how they could have done better with their parenting skills; rather I shall say  “Thank you, for everything you have done for me”  and  “You are the best in the world and there is no one better than you”  and   like I say to Rishi always;  “Any odds thrown at you; have to deal with me first before it reaches you.”  But that does not mean that I shall change my way of dealing things to match theirs. No. I am very convinced with mine. It’s not going to change.  On the same token; I shall not suggest them to change theirs either.  I shall not indulge in negativity, whether they were created by us or by others from outside. Full Stop. I do not have time for that. It’s a bad thing and I shall not participate. https://youtu.be/iy4mXZN1Zzk

Forgiveness is equally important for our own sanity and tranquillity.  I have always forgiven, even to my worst enemy. Not that I have many enemy, may be just one in the life so far. And this one relationship has been categorised as enemy because it certainly can not be labelled as friendship anymore. Is there any relationship type between “Animosity” and “Friendship”? There are NO 50 shades of grey really; in real life. J Either black or white it is. Same thing confuses me; when someone answers “I am OK” to our question “How are you?”. We heard about being in a god state or bad state. What does it feel to be in an OK state? Like lord Krishna had forgiven his cousin Shishupal for 100 times, before punishing him. I have counted three times, explained the offence, requested them to be careful for the future and forgiven for their action all three times. And when it continued to create negativity towards me; I had to ignore the relationship. Shall I take one more chance and forgive again? Nope. It’s closed/sealed forever. It is not going to happen. Otherwise I would be wasting my time. I have lot of better things to do.

They say; three words “Love”, “Justice” and “Balance” are practically synonymous with a Libra sun sign. Libra invented Love, and refined it to an art with even more finesse.  I can imagine it for the words “Justice” and “Balance”. Even my young Libran cub (Rishi) shows this character very often using the line “It’s not fair”. When someone says it is unfair; that means they know what is fair. At least he is not throwing his tantrum; he never did ever since he was born. He is merely saying it is unfair. He is an angel.  And when we adapt fairness in our action/communication; justice can be prevailed. How all connected? Isn’t it? Wonderful!!! But I am unsure of the word “Love”. Really?  Mahadev is smiling from upstairs. He is saying something, which I can hear. Are you? I keep telling this to my parents at times…you spend so much time on spirituality/divine activities because you believe in God. Don’t you? And when you really believe in God; do you really have to worry about the outcomes? We only continue to do what is good…which our heart approves. Rest all will be taken carel. Trust me…Automatically.  So it is not the word “Love” or “God” that matter; but an addition of “Real” to them makes them far more special.  We shall continue to search for Special experience. Shall we? Because everything else; doesn’t matter; don’t mind.

Kehtein hein; Kuch logoan ke sath sirf waqt bita ne se, saab kuch sahi ho jata hey. Who waqt kitna hi kaam na ho. Kuch chand lamhe (mins/secs)…zindegi bhaar keliye yaadgaar benke reh jati hey. • Business, Politics, Justice & Love!

If there is anyone: ask them to come and deal from the front. If not; how does it matter? Let them be in the place, where they belong, in their little dungeon from where they are operating. • Rumour has it! :)

Jun 25, 2016 by Bikash Mohanty

What do we think? Time passes quickly or it does not? I think it passes too quickly. If we feel it does not; then there is something wrong at our end. We are not utilizing it properly. So many things to do…so many places to see… so many to say thank you…and what not! In life, we really don’t get second chances. And therefore we try to be prudent all the time. So much so that we delay making a decision; because we think we have a good idea what the outcome will be. Yes we think so only!!! And therefore we choose not to deal with it or deal with it later. We try to escape from uncertainty. Sometimes a bad decision causes discomfort. Discomforts last a little while for some and for others it hangs around for really long time. We hope time would heal everything. Everything includes matters, which we are confident that they can never be healed. It depends how we want to deal with the discomfort. Sometimes we allow it for little while & other times we hug it for really long time. Then one fine day; we suddenly wake up & clean it all. We succeed. We are happy again. Life moves on.

Newspapers revealed; The British people are frantically googling what the E.U. is, hours after voting to leave it!!! Why? Why didn’t we do the same before voting for the E.U. referendum? Apparently we want a second referendum now. Easy! We assume; it’s a piece of cake to have a second referendum. If so; why don’t we bring petitions like this against war decisions, to disclose information on corruption, to bring justice to them, who need it? We should have the power. It is democracy; as we like to believe. Referendum on its own has no value. Govt takes the final decision. But government is in a difficult position to go against the verdict of the people.   So; No it is not a piece of cake. That’s what an uninformed decision brings back; duality in mind. Therefore our decisions must always be well informed and thought-through. Someone was asking me today “Do you know the biggest scam in the history?”. No; I don’t know anything about it. Tell me, tell me everything about it; I said. He explained, “It is the USA & Germany who have scripted and executed the BREXIT, so that they can be benefited from the FOREX turbulence”. Another one passing by suggested, “I think in four years time, there will not be any Pound at all. It’ll be gone forever. There will be only EURO”. Weird stories, Weird Logic. There are more stories like this. We shall not waste more time on this . Just imagine; if the results were opposite there would still be plenty of stories like this…on a different context…from a different angle. It really does not take much to make stories. Stories suggest; Amitabh Bachhan had an affair with Aishwarya Rai Bachhan; his daughter like, only daughter-in-law. Ask Google if you didn’t believe. Apparently; Mahatma Gandhi had affairs with two of his attendants Manu & Abha. There are similar stories about Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Michael Jackson, Naveen Patnaik, Narendra Modi and about everyone of us. But there is a common trick here…more famous you are…there is more stories around you. They make stories for fun; to bring drama into the context; to counter attack; to hide own mistake and blame others for it; out of jealousy or to make them look superior. Seldom we create any rumour against a poor person. Have you heard? Very rarely. Never mind! Only weak minds deal with rumours and us – the strong minds only deal with that, what our eyes sees.  Right?

Is it possible to speak everything that comes into our mind? Nope. Not possible. Yes, that’s right. It is not possible. Why? Because it brings stories like those above, brings fear to the forefront, bring jealousy to the forefront, it brings everything to the forefront which have nothing to do with the spirit of life. It brings quite a lot of confusion. But. Ruko (Stop). It is possible…rather recommended to speak everything that comes into our heart. No feekar…hoke befeekar. Because that; will make the world a better place by living from our heart; not from my mind.

I do remember a time…I was walking in the hospital campus late in the evening, when my mother was in the operation theatre. I asked myself the question “Why I can’t feel my steps…?”. Since then I feel every step I take, mind does not bother me at all. Mind has accepted the defeat and heart ruled thereafter. I take steps from my heart. Many facets of our life, which are still ruled by our mind. Mind does not know. That’s why it brings many WHAT-Ifs. Heart, instead knows…hence there is no doubt ever remains with decision made from our heart.

We often correlate heart with Love. Does not have to be a romantic relationship always to explain the important of heart in our lives. But love indeed; is the epitome of hearts and heart is the essence of love. Those decisions we take from heart; WHAT-IF never comes into mind. First sign of it coming from the heart, rather than from the mind. And secondly; any decisions taken from heart; seldom goes wrong.  Love is living through the frugal times. Like with facebook we don’t make friends, we add them. Similarly with love; we have to compromise these days; we have to change ourselves to be suitable for the role. CUT CUT CUT . Signs of MIND ruling. When HEART rules…there is no change…there is no compromise…we just slip into a comfortable pair of pyjama…that how it feels. We don’t need to speak, discuss, argue, compromise…deals are done through the eye…eye only. Love, Relationship, Marriages are not any ritual to follow. They are celebration. Celebration for the union of hearts… HEART = TRUTHFULNESS = PEACE = COMFORT = GOD. Therefore; third sign of any decision coming from our heart is; we only deal with truthfulness. Dealing with pure truthfulness can bring discomfort sometimes. We have to get rid of our ego for that. Push comes to shove in all areas of our world; a brief discomfort will pave the way for reassurance, love and freedom.
